The most highly anticipated automotive event of the year is the Canadian International AutoShow, presented by AutoTRADER.ca, and held each February at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

This year, the AutoShow is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and the Trillium Automobile Dealers Association is pleased to provide an event that is fitting for the occasion. The show takes place between February 15th and 24th.

This year’s theme is The Legacy, which commemorates the past, the present and future of the auto industry. The past four decades have brought extraordinary advancements in automobile design, engineering, performance and safety, and the AutoShow has showcased those developments every step of the way.

It’s incredible how the AutoShow has evolved over the years. In the early 1970s, the show was held at the International Centre in Mississauga and occupied 90,000 sq. ft. of space. It attracted approximately 80,000 visitors, but scant media attention.

When the AutoShow moved to its present home at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in 1986, the visitor count surged to 200,000 and it has continued to grow. Today, the AutoShow is the largest consumer show in Canada, occupying 650,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space and attracting more than 300,000 visitors annually.

In 2001, Toronto competed with Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and other major cities, to be given international designation by the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles.  Many manufacturers responded by increasing their exhibit foot print to accommodate new and, in some cases, international components from the world-wide auto show circuit.

The AutoShow is a major league event for auto industry players and car enthusiasts, and a major media event as well. Automobile manufacturers, participating sponsors, car dealers, auto journalists, political dignitaries, media outlets and car enthusiasts converge on the CIAS to see what’s new in the automotive world.

The Autoshow is frequently host to Canadian and the occasional North American premier unveilings, and the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) award winners are announced at the show annually.

The 40th Anniversary AutoShow will feature an eclectic range of eye-catching exhibits, interactive displays, new models, concepts cars, vintage automobiles and plenty of surprises.

New this year is the Canadian Builders Hot Rod Showcase, celebrating 100 years of automotive design. Customized cars and trucks, and the Canadians who built them, will be proudly featured.

Back for 2013 is the popular Cruise Nationals, an impressive showcase of custom and restored cars and trucks from across southern Ontario, built prior to 1975. Cruise Nationals provides an opportunity for classic car enthusiasts (and car owners) to share their passion with the public for these beautifully restored vehicles.

Another crowd favourite is Auto Exotica, a comprehensive collection of exotic cars (including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Fisker, Aston Martin and others) that will appeal to car lovers of all ages.

Also returning in 2013 is the Eco-Drive Showcase, featuring clean, fuel-efficient vehicles and technologies that are either currently available or will be available soon. Featured vehicles will be equipped with diesel, hybrid, hybrid plug-in, and battery-electric drive trains, as well as advanced conventional technologies.

A free bus shuttle offers continuous service throughout the 10-day event, transporting visitors between the MTCC’s North and South buildings, and Wheelchair Accessible shuttle services are also available.

Buy tickets at the AutoShow website (E-Ticket Fastlane) and save 10%, and avoid the lineups. Family admission passes, multi-day passes and group rates are available.

Ample public parking is available nearby, and public transit is quick, convenient and accessible from Union Station.
